Good-To-Great Social Media Marketing

Good companies do a few things right. Great companies do all of the important things right. Let’s review a few important areas of focus, as they pertain to successful social media marketing.

Jim Collins (author of the bestselling book Good to Great) believes that “greatness is largely a matter of conscious choice.” Meaning that all website owners can become great at social media marketing.

The book talks about making sure we have the right person in the right spot. If we have good people working with us, find out what they’re good at and have them focus their energies in that area. Don’t fire an intelligent, hard worker with a great attitude just because she isn’t performing in the area you chose for her to work. Find an area where she is competent!

Don’t outsource your article writing if that is one of your strengths! Alex Mandossian, for example, has had great success in social media marketing by continuing to write his own content. Great social media marketers put the best people responsible for the best opportunity (not their biggest problem). If your best opportunity for growth is through SEO, make your best, most qualified individual responsible for that area.

When reviewing your online business, ask yourself:
What Are We Deeply Passionate About? Are you selling a product or service that you are excited about providing to the world? You will be dramatically more effective and productive if you wake up every morning anxious to get to work! Think what a difference it will make in your performance – not to mention the performance of your co-workers!

Remember, 1 + 1 = 3 only when the two people involved have the same level of intensity and are moving in the same direction! If the preceding is not true, 1 + 1 can equal -42! Get passionate about social media marketing and your people will get passionate! Your potential and current customers will see your high level of energy and they will want to be part of the excitement!

What Drives Our Economic Engine? Are you doing something that is financially valuable? Is what you spend significantly less than what you earn? Do you have a system in place to audit those areas that determine whether you are successful or not? What are you doing to improve the systems and procedures you are using? Are you testing new social media marketing theories and new online products such as trust seals to determine their value in duplicating (in some instances) your conversion rate?

What Can We Be The Best In The World At? Jim and I suggest that you don’t get involved with any product or service unless you know that you can be the best in the world at providing that product or service. Affiliates-only, for example, have a hard time passing their manufacturer or service provider in sales. Effective social media marketing programs can help, but creating your own product along with affiliate marketing has proven financially rewarding.

When all of these key areas are addressed and answered in a manner that can induce and incite high levels of forward movement – with the right social media marketing tools and the right people in the right places – your company can become GREAT!
